ok now that i got my folding all up and running (thx guys) my parents don't like what im doing

they thing that sanford is a group of hackers and im part of them by giving them access to my computer...stupid eh?

anywho they keep asking me why they need my resources to do this finding cure thingy and how im helping

could you guys tell me cause I have no clue....thx

basically why theyt need my Cpu power and how it helps them by doing the "number thing"

Well first of all, the program is headed by the famous Stanford University. They are not hackers and this is a very good cause.

In short, they would have to fill ROOMs full of computers to get the kind of computer power that people like us are willing to donate for free. They have work units that need to be analyzed. Instead of building their own computers to do this, they send out the work units to us, we analyze them, and the results are sent back. Security is tight and this will not allow your computer to be hacked. If you have more questions, try reading some of the FAQs at the top of this forum.

lol they read the site i explained to hear the wu how im helping them by doing it for them and she said if we get hacked she calling stanford

any who next question :D

Sure, but you are part of the most important one of all, Folding@Home! :D

There is also a weather prediction one I think.

does she know what "hacked" is?
you might try explaining to her that there is absolutely nothing of interest or value in your computer to a person with the skills to actually comprise your security.
hell, if i had "skillz" i'd try to rip off CC numbers from like ebay servers or something. not break into some nobody's computer. No offense, but you're not important in a sense that i feel compelled to have what you have enough to try to break into your computer.

edit: wow, i sounded like a real *** in this post. the overwhelming stupidity of some people in regards to computers just frustrates me. And, that other guy was right, she WILL blame anything that goes wrong on folding@home.

my parents have the same issues but, its MY computer not there's mine! ALL MINE!!!! HAHAHHAHA

Outburst! Sorry!

yea, i'm in the same boat with my computer, except since it's the only one in the house, they still get wierd about it sometimes. I just remind them that anything that goes wrong (short of hardware failure) i can fix. That usually puts them to ease.
