fop38 question

I just ordered a FOP 38 for my celey 667. Do have to have a shin on it, or will i be fine without it. I know it is safer to shim it, but I really don't want to spend the money on it if i don't have to. All thoughts appreciated.
Actually, from my experience, the FC-PGA (flip chip coppermine) like your Celeron, stays cooler without the spacer. Just be careful when you go to install the cooler. Try to keep the sink level on the CPU core slug at all times.
thanks a bunch for the quick replies. Saved myself ten bucks(actually i was just going to see if four dimes or pennys would have worked)
It turns out that shims really decrease cooling performance. Tests on the main page have shown this.
That is very very interesting, actually I can see immediately why. Most shims are made of copper which will conduct heat away from the heatsink onto itself. Maybe if one was made of a very non heat conductive it would work.
