i have a 36gig raptor sata, 80 gig seagate ide, and a 120gig wd ide

i formated the raptor and reinstalled windows and now instead of the usual 2-3 passes of the blue bar its up to 10 or so.

i removed the seagate ide drive and it went back to the normal boot time

so i formated and scan disked the seagate but no change

does anyone know what the issue might be?

thanks

What's the boot order in the BIOS? When you reinstalled on the raptor were the PATA drives connected? When you first installed the OS on the raptor were the PATA drives connected?

i have the boot order set to the floppy>cd>raptor

when i first installed xp i didnt have the pata drives connected and after the reinstall i remembered that and did another reinstall without the pata drives and i still get the same problem

Can you try setting the boot order to the SATA Controller only, if there are 3 orders to define set them all to the SATA Controller if possible. I keep thinking its a driver issue with the native PATA IDE Controller that is causing the slow bootup, SATA driver & PATA Driver.

The WD PATA isn't causing a slowdown? Can you try the Saegate in a switched position, if i was master set it to slave or vice versa. Also try each PATA HDD on seperate IDE Controllers.

the wd isnt causing a problem

i have switched the two making the seagate the slave and also had the seagate on its own ide controller aswell as switching the hds to the second ide controller but i will try the seagate on the second controller by itself now

and thanks for the help so far

ok it now seems to be that it only takes a long time to load when there is a slave drive. i switched out the cable with one of the orignal that came with the mb but its still the same
