they are here folks. 2 brand spanken new ones ready to go in and run raid0.
im downloading some software for the webcam i have for a few crappy pics.
then ill install and the post benches.
this will be run raid0 on my nf7-s rev2 with the silcon image controller.yes i know the headaches this controller can have.

if you want certain benches just ask and ill do my best.
ill be useing a 16k stripe btw.
i did reflash my system bios in hopes it put the original SI bios back on the controler.i have the new one also for testing.

also im going win2kpro as ive had the best luck with it over xp pro due to corruptions.

pics in a few minutes.

well im back finally.
i had it running for an hour before i corrupted the drives. silicon image is the blame once again.
i was using the old bios and new drivers.so this time i flashed the new SI bios and new drivers.
i corrupted as atto locked up and i had to hit the reset switch.we all know what heppens when you do that.

anyhow sandra did 62,500 on the first setup.
i need to rerun it all now.
yes its very very fast :D
ill have the benches before the night is over.

ok i forgot to mention noise. they are a bit louder than my wd 7200 2mb drives i was using.nothing horrable nor do i think its loud.its just a tad more noticable. its more a clicking than a whine.
unless you put your ear 2" from the drive you can here the high pitch whine. i use no side panel so most would never here these.

"edit2"
im now noticing it is alot louder than my old WD 200bb's
not sure if its the read or writeing thas noisy but when my hdd led flashs from activity i can hear the head.
to me its like a nice exhaust on a v8 as i wouldnt even use a radio id drive just to the tune of the engines sound.kinda pleasing like that in a geeky kinda way.

btw im completly on all SI's recomended drivers and bios's
so if i get 1 corruption like this im gonnabe talking to SI.
then im buying a promise sata raid0 card.im in to deep now i might as well go the rest the way if things dont pan out.

I posted this in the intel forums but here's my benchmark. same thing, 2 Raptors in RAID-0 except with a 32K stripe size

nice also!
funny how these scores dont seem to flutuate much.
i do love this setup tho.but im unsure the controller will be staying or replaced.

well its a long and indepth story from the begining so ill summerize.

its the silicon image sata raid controller found on asus and abit nf2 mobos.it corrupts so badly that once it does you never see windows again to ever fix or repair it.

SI has done many driver fixs and none worked.they just did a bios flash for the controller but i think they under estimated peoples ability to screw that up.so they are telling people to wait until the respective mobo makers incorperate the bios fix in a whole bios update for the entire mobo.

i was able to get mine flashed tho.ive not tested it long with the new bios and new drivers to say its junk also.
its performance went down with each fix also.but seems on par now with other controllers ive seen.

it just irks me i may have to go plop down $100 for a new pci sata raid card.but the proof will be in the pudding as im really hard on my arrays and if it can be corrupted im the man for the job:D

btw ive been testing this SI controller since it was realesed so im very familier with it and corruptions.lets just hope this latest fix actually works.

yeh i wanna take advantage of the one on my mobo.
but i do think intel makes a great controller pci card if i remember wich i will be looking into if this SI controller isnt fixed.

i bought mine at newegg for $175 each and of course they are only $173 now.monarchpc had em for $159 last i looked.great resselerrating also.
im an egghead so the extra cost is ok with me.

i just want to say this is a really well spent investment imho.
the speed gained is increadable as the hdd's are the BIGGEST bottleneck.you make that fast on an increadably fast machine it feels like a rocket pc,im not exagerating.

ive always used raid0 on my main rigs.some will argue its value and speed differance but anyone who actually uses it will attest to it speeding the whole pc up.now speed a ide raid0 up by 50% like this does its in a league of its own :D

honestly it is expensive no doubt but for what you gain in seeable speed increases it is worth it in the long run.

I got 2 of mine for 319 shipped from cnetpc.com

I'll have to agree that my machine seems uber fast now. I never used RAID before. you notice the difference in everything you do.

u dont have any corruption yet ?

ill buy 2 raptors and raid 0 on my abit nfs-7 2.0. u guys are trying setup raid 0 on what revision of abit nf7-s ?

yeah i have a single Raptor on my NF7-S Rev 2 even with a single drive its so fast. Big difference. I also had corruption with bios 12 i have 14 now all seems good. I should get myself another raptor for some raid 0 oh yeah lol. I find the drive a little loud. But i guess that's what you get for speed.

I have corrupted my raptors in raid several times. I actually RMA the pair of raptors twice. Having to install and install again really takes the fun out of having a new computer.

Funny, I totally can't hear mine. I'm kinda ****ed about it, as for the money, I kinda hoping for some cool noises. But oh well, the box is otherwise pretty silent, so it's a small loss.

Oh yeah, totally with you on the no radio to hear the engine thing. You're not alone.
