front pannel for audigy (platinum )

I have an Audigy 2 platinum and have enjoyed it for quite a while. My computer on a whole is getting old and i plan on buying a new one soon, and i was considering on upgrading to one of the newer sound cards, but i wouldnt want to have to buy a new sound card with the front panel because of the price.

Are the newer sound cards compatible with the old panel?
Are the front panels that come with newer sound cards any different? any info on that kind of stuff would be great.
