Hi guys,

Boy do i need help! :(

I would like to buy a graphic card, and all i see is loads of them and i just go round in circles thinking which one do i buy and will it be ok on windoze XP?

Money is not an issue i saved a good amount now!

Can anyone guide me here and if you know any pitfalls could you let me know? from what i have read here its a toss up between nVidia geforce 4 and radeon 9700 but there are so many makes and models its very frustrating to pick one?

So please post and if you own a good card or a bad bomber please say and i will keep away from them!

Thank you all guys I LOVE THIS FORUM ITS A BEAST of its own...

Thank you......

now the best performance card out there are

ATI Radeon 9700 or its pro version

Most of the ATI Radeon 9700 is pretty much the same except the software bundle and also the cooling device on the card. Some put Fan some didnt, some put heat sink or video ram and some didnt. It should support Windows XP no problem at all.

check out tom's hardware reviews on ATI 9700 cards

Well, if money's no object, buy two, and send one to me:p

You'll be looking at the Radeon 9700 or a GeForce4 Ti4600.

The card with the best 3DMark2001 benchmark score at the moment is the Radeon 9700. And the 9700 glitches have all been worked out now, so I would say the 9700.....

Ok, on the "glitches thing" do i need other drivers than what ship with it?

And does the 9700 pro run fine on a 4xagp? and XP Pro?

cheers..........

Personally i'd go for the 128Mb GeForce Ti4200 because in terms of bang for your buck you can't beat it. If however, you've got loads of cash to burn then sure, go for the Radeon or Ti4600 :)

You've heard incorrectly...the Radeon 9700 smokes the Geforce 4. If you're looking for the highest performance video card out there, that's your answer.

The sheer number of times that I've seen that statement about ATI cards is enough to keep me away from them. Since both are overkill in the speed department, it only makes sense to buy the dependable one.

there is no doubt that the 9700Pro is the better card it is almost twice as fast in many things especially with AA and Aniso turned on, and with a high end card i would expect to be able to play with these features on, but with the Ti4600 and 9700Pro one must always ask if its realyl worth it? I would rather buy a Ti4200 and overclock it and in the end save lots of money

hi

does a ti4200 overclocked kill a stock radeon 9700?

thank you........

no nothing that is currently out right now can even TOUCH a 9700Pro at stock.....not even close.....a Ti4200 oced may be able to beat a Ti4600 stock

My advise is to get a cheap card, then get an NV30 or "GeforceFX'. That card will be some tweaked out technical shiznit

If you want top of the line ATM, go for the hercules 9700 pro. Since you live in Europe, it should be easier to buy that one. It's got better cooling than the other ones for better OC'in, plus it's got a better looking PCB. Lastly, it comes with a free game too!
