Hello all,

First off let me say thank you for any and all help I may recieve from anyone who tries to help me.

The problem im having is very frequent and random lockups on my pc.Its not even 2 weeks old yet and im not sure exactly whats causing it.But I have an idea.

I recently ran sisoft sandra on the system and the only error messages I got was in respect to the front side bus.

"FSB exceeds Chipset rated speed.Reduce FSB.
AGP bus speed is too high.Reduce FSB speed or FSB/AGP multiplier.
PCI bus speed is too high.Reduce FSB speed or FSB/PCI multipier.
ISA/DMA bus speed is too high.Reduce PCI speed or PCI/ISA multiplier."

My whole system is jacked as a result.
specs....

p4 2.4
pcchips m925alu
512 ddram
geforce 4 ti4800 se
40g hd

i managed to keep it running long enough to find out that my agp bus is running at 88mhz.
i cant remember exactly what the others were but i do remember that everything was up 22mhz respectivly.

any ideas how to get the bus speed back to the default settings?
btw .. the bios is crappy amibios and the cpu is locked. The frequency settings are set at 133 and cant be changed.

help....

I'm not familiar with the PCChips motherboards, but what your
looking for is a "fixed divider" or any sort of divider ratio in
the BIOS.

Chance are, being a really low end motherboard, you might not
have that option at all!

You should be able to at least run at 133FSB and update the BIOS

MAKE SURE IT'S RUNNING SOLID AND SAFELY BEFORE ATTEMPTING
TO UPDATE YOUR BIOS!!

I have already checked and I have the most recent bios update.
There's gotta be a way to change it back,I mean it appears to be overclocked already.
Thanks for the idea.

Can you at least get into Windows and run CPU-Z or CPUID to
check and see what the FSB and Multi are really set at? Or is
it not stable enough for that?

It does sound like you've got a bad board if it can't even run
the AGP and PCI properly at 133FSB

At 133 FSB, there should be a 1/4 PCI divider that runs the PCI bus at a default 33.3 MHz. Double that to get the default AGP bus of 66.6 MHz. Some mobos have a BIOS setting that allows you to "fix" the PCI/AGP speeds or change it to pre-set speeds. Maybe this is set manually to a non default speed?. PCchips is pretty much a crappy mobo. It would not surprise me if it just ain't running in spec. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

i did manage to download the frequency id utility from intel and it identified it as a 2.4 533.
I am on my other system right now.Im not sure how stable the other system is.Funny thing is it seems to be stable when playing games such as mohaa or wolfenstein.I played wolfenstein for about an hr this morning with no problems. However most of the time if im just surfing the web or working on my desktop I can expect a freeze in about 10 min.Ive even had times where it just froze on the login screen. So I decided not to push it until I found out some more info.
