Hi everyone I am new to this forum.

I recently bought a FX 8120 and upped the multiplier to 18 for 3.6ghz and did not need to change the stock v from 1.1875 or something like that. I am getting temps of about 37 in windows and about 48 when doing things and my fans are on high speed and set to increase rpm when it gets to set degrees. I am wondering if my CPU or my Heatsink are faulty. I have thermal paste en-route to check if its a seating issue, and I have more ram on the way as my current ram is too tall for the second heatsink fan. I have the Thermaltake frio advanced heatsink with air blowing out of it, and I have a 20cm fan blowing cool air in from the side and one from the front, i have a 12cm fan at the bottom blowing air in and the there are 3 fans 2 top and 1 back blowing air out. I was wondering if my CPU temps are too high as when I run prime95 at 3.8ghz I am hitting about 55-60 degrees.

BTW this is a new build and first time OCing. I have no more money till march so if you say I need I may need to know links

Thanks for any help.

55-60 is considered the limit you want to hit for AMD in prime loading.. (You generally wanna keep it below 55 really..) So yes, your temps are a bit high.. Especially if you're running stock voltage :\. I could understand if it was the stock heatsink.. But not with an aftermarket one!

Definitely try a reseat. What compound?

This one came with the new heatsink just says Thermaltake on it no model or type on it. The new stuff is from my dad so I am not sure what it is. What would you recommend as my housemate is going to poland next week and he is buying me some for £1 ish.

Also im only using 1 fan of mmy 2 fan heatsink and nothing it dirrectly cooling it would that have an effect?

The 8120's do run pretty hot compared to even my PII 1090T I think once you get the second fan on you will notice a difference.

I was thinking of replacing the fans of that heatsink aswell. as they get to as high as 44 db in sound.

Also if I added more fans to the case say 2 120mm fron fans and 120mm fan at the bottom that are better speeds/cfm and moved mu two 200mm fans to the top and added a third 200mm to the side would that make the CPU also cooler slightly?

atm my case has 1 200mm at the front and 1 at the side plus 2 120mm at top (1 is from heatsink) and 1 at the bottom. the 2 other 120mm are cheap ones. So i was thinking of moving the two 200mm fans to the top then adding a new 200mm fan at the side and adding 3 new 120mm fans to the remainging areas. so ill have cool air from the side fan and 2 front and 1 bottom. or do i buy 2 200mm fans and put a new on in the front and side 1 intake and 1 out? I do not know what the side fan is meant to be its below the GPU so it as an intake would cool the gpu more
