I noticed that even with no sound playing there was feedback through my headphones. This was evident by the speaker levels moving around with nothing playing.

The solution I found was to disable the Equalizer in the Nforce control panel. Instantly removed feedback and noise.

FYI

I seem to get a loud buzzing noise when I you the analog connections. Its not a faint noise but a really loud one. I think it could be something with the board, because I get the buzzing noise before Windows even boots. During post after post. The weird thing is that it happens on occasion. has anybody gotten this before.
Do you think its worth an RMA? How strict is Asus with there RMAs.

My crackling went away after I a) stopped using equalizer, or b) attached a heatsink to the South Bridge...idk which did it oh yeah! I...er...like....think my klispch speakers are messed or something, my headphones have no static, but the speakers, i needa twist the cables to get the static to go away...sad for such expensive speakers
