I'm looking for another game like it. I know NWN is but you only have one character and then mercenaries...I want to have my own party of characters I choose like in baldurs gate 2. Is there any games like it? (I completed dungeon siege I+II also)

Any input would be great!

Baldurs Gate 2 / Throne of Baal are my favorite games of all time...simply amazing game. Personally I thought NWN was a ridiculously over-rated waste of time, but to answer your question you may want to try Knights of the old Republic 1/2 if you havnt already, also the Icewind Dale series and Planescape Torment. Unfortuneately no other game has matched the joy playing BG2 has givin me, but those are worth a try. If youve read the review for Dragon Age then I'm sure your as hopefull as I am that it will be the "Baldurs Gate 3" we have been waiting for.

NWN2 was far better then the first in my opinion. You can tell that they left things out of the game, but there is a lot of content.

Icewind dale was ok. It couldn't keep me hooked for long.

The thing is there aren't many games like BG1 and 2. The focus seems to be on action rpg.

Yes, BG 1 & 2 were really awesome. The only thing that I've played recently that has drawn me in the same way was Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It's a very different game, but it reminds me of BG2 in many ways--the big capital city, lots of different quests hidden throughout the world, fantasy setting, etc. Neverwinter Nights didn't do it for me--I played it, but it just didn't recapture the magic. After reading the reviews of NWN2, I'm going to give it a miss entirely.

Mass Effect and Bioshock are going to be my next RPG's. Currently I'm playing through Oblivion all over again on the 360--and finding that the 360 controller works much better than the keyboard and mouse in that game.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned Planescape: Torment. That's an RPG for old-time RPGers. It's the only RPG in which most of your experience will come through conversations, and your most important stat is Wisdom.

The NWN franchise is crap. Bioware can kiss my ***.

I loved Planescape: Torment, definitely one of the best classic RPG's out there. But at the same time I really enjoy the NWN series, the single player game is pretty good, but its everything else that makes the game a full step ahead of all the other RPG's out. The community for the games are enormous and very rich with detail and passion in most of the projects and mods.

Lets go back even farther... anyone ever play LORD or Usurper? Or am i the only one old enough to remember playing RPG's on BBS's witch ASCII graphics?

Ever played Fallout 2? It's not really like BG2 but if you like BG2 you'll like Fallout2(if that makes sense). Other than that my vote goes to Icewind Dale 2 or Knights of the old republic. All three have plenty of character.

All of these games are a few years old but the classics never die

Nox
Planescape
Septerra Core
The Temple of Elemental Evil
Lionheart
any fallout game besides the ps/xbox one

Just started playing Baldur's Gate 2. If you haven't tried them I also recommend Throne of Bhaal and Baldur's Gate 1 and Tales of the Sword coast.

I remember playing those games nightly and others (easier to log on at 12-4am than afternoon) on all the local BBS's when I was in high school (er, wait, maybe I shouldn't say that! :D ).

I'm also playing through Planescape:Torment now (how many years now since I have owned it? lol ), graphics look a lot like Diablo 2 (at least to me), but the story line and characters are top notch. I can't think of any other games where you wake up on a metal table in a morgue with no memories who you are, and that the first 'thing' you talk to is a flying skull! Great game! :attn:
