Hey guys I found out I have Gator running in my computer. I guess it came with a player i downloaded. I uninstalled the player but gator stayed and i cant seem to un-install it from my system. Anyone know how i can get rid of the thing?

did u try to delete it from the add/delete programs?? otherwise just find the folder and delete it... its happened to me, those things like to download on ur pc without u knowing... just like the bonzi buddy thing, does the same thing....

I tried to find it on add/ delete but its not listed... I tried to just manually delete it but it says that its running and i can't delete. One time i tried to sgut down my system while and it said a bunch of programs i don't even know about wasn't responding. One of them was called "Your not supposed to see this"????!!!!!! Thats the first time I found out it was on my system.

I have windows 2000 any way i can get rid of it?

I never used 2000, but go into 'programs' 'accessories' 'system tools' look for 'system restore' and see about restore points.
Or do a search in Windows for "Restore Points".
There's restore points in there someplace and it will take you back to 'before' you installed that program with 'Gator'.
Good luck. :)
PS: If it's messing with a lot of your other systems, you may need to restart in 'safe mode' and do the system restore.

Win2k doesn't have System Restore. If you wanna get rid of it, go into Task Manager, and try to shut down everything except Explorer and what is related to it. everything that has a suspicious name, close it. Then, try to delete the folder again

First things first. Find out what program installed Gator. Reinstall that program, or uninstall if still installed...and most of the time that will take it away. That's why I NEVER do a "typical" setup when installing new progy's.

thanks guys

I ran ad aware and it killed gator but i still cant seem to delete the cmesys.exe and all the other junk in that file... I keep running adaware and no signs of gator so i guess it worked:)

Iv seen that "your not supposed to see this" thing before too. Im not sure what it is, but ad-aware never says anthing about it.

That crap prog hasnt found its way to my HD yet :p
and when it does it'll prob be time to reimage anyway :p

Did anyone say trojan? Any program called "you're not supposed to see this" sounds suspicious. Gator, Bonzai', Real and AOL are the most pernicious pests around. Gator will remain on your system in a folder waiting to be revived. Do a search it's still around. Download Eraser from ZDNet to fry this monster. This program is DLed from Real Networks and has been said before don't select typical installs from any progs anymore, see what they want you to swallow first. I use Trojan Shield (shareware, Tucows DL), this prog alerts you to changes in your registry and a 2 click deletion of offending entries. These reg entries prevent uninstalls as they keep the prog running. With Trojan Shield I found the cliktillwin(W32) trojan in Lime Wire and Kazaa two weeks before the news broke!
