Currently, I am using Geforce 4 MX420 (3800+ on 3Dmark01, 137+ on 3Dmark03) , run on AMD 1800+, that card is really suck for the most recently games. After using more than 1 year, I plan to buy a new graphic card at the end of this month. Well, could someone here advise me whether to get a Geforce 4 ti 4200 or ATI 9500 or any other good cards? My budget is around USD 180, and I usually play the FPS games, and I hope the Doom 3 and Duke Nukem Forever can run smooth on my new card. thanks.

There have been *a lot* of posts like this, search the forums for your question, and you will find a lot. ATI 9500 Pro outperforms the 4200, not sure about the 9500np, but if you get the 9500np, you can always soft mod it to a 9700 pro..

Both are good cards and will probably run Doom3 well, but I'd get a 9500 Pro for $180.

Difinitely, go with 9500 Pro or 9600 Pro.

9600 Pro should be cheaper than 9500 Pro, and slightly slow.
But it' will be running much cooler because of 0.13u process.
If you do overclocking video card, 9600Pro could be overclocked
to very high frequency.

You can't "always" softmod a 9500np... it fails half the time and you need the special red PCB anyway, which is fairly rare. And a non-softmodded 9500np ain't good.

Either spend the extra $20-$30 and get a 9500pro, or save $40 and get a ti4200. The 9500pro will be significantly faster, especially with FSAA.
