I was wondering if you can use the raid channels on a baoard as normal ide channels. I was thinking, put a HD on one raid channel and dvd/cdrw on the ide channels and you would not have drives fighting for use of the channels. Is this true/possable?, and would this give comprable proformance to setting these 3 devices on a SCSI bus?

thanks

You can do the above.

BUT

I don't think the performance increase will be noticeable, if there is any at all.

I stuck an old 835 MB HD that I had (it refuses to work as anything but master) on my IDE3 channel just as a regular HD and it works..... I've heard that you should only use the RAID IDE channels for HD's and not for removable media. This makes sense when you look at your HPT Raid bios.
