I installed rpm on a system that did not include rpm by default, and it works fine as long as I specify nodeps since the only things that show up in the RPM database are the 3 packages I've installed using it. I'm using Gentoo (and I love the portage system) , and have a directory full of the *.tgz files that have been installed. Is there anyway I can get RPM to accept that certain things are installed?

I doubt I can, but just thought I'd throw out the question.

I don't think you can build an rpm database in any practical way, and I don't see why you would want to either.

Not that I really need to build one, I just get annoyed seeing the dependancy warnings on the few rpm files I install. I really wish everyone would release tarballs.

There are programs that will rip apart rpms and give you a tarball or a deb or whatever. Alien seems to be a popular one.

Yes, I used to use Slackware, so I know about Alien. I was just being lazy. Might be a decent project for me to tackle once I get some time. A little pearl scipting and examination of the rpm database format should allow me to hack something out :) Thanks for your help anyway.
