m building a new core 2 duo system, but when I try to turn it on the case fans and such don't even work, if the CMOS is in the "normal position, if it's in the "clear" position, I get power to everything, but just a black screen still.. Everything is plugged in, except for the 8 pin power connector on the motherboard. The power supply that came with my case doesn't have an 8 pin, only 2 4 pins. I tried to put both of them in, but that didn't seem to work.

I was reading reviews on newegg and I found this, which is exactly what's happening to me :

Couldn't get the board to post. No audible beeps, no video, nothing. CMOS Clear Jumpers is a huge issue. Manual says Normal position and the machine won't power on. In Clear CMOS position, power but no post or sound.

This is an ECS P965T-A (V1.0) Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

Sigh I dont know what to do, should I just send this motherboard back?

if you have a older lga775 cpu pop it in the board and update the bios. if the fan plugged into the mobo spin then the mobo is fine. if the macro code needed to id the cpu is not in the bios then this as you described happens.
