DFI Ultra Infinity NFII
AthlonXP 2500+ @ 2.15GHz w/ vCore 1.8, Chipset 1.8
Thermaltake Volcano 12 HSF
Kingston HyperX PC3000 512MB @ 390MHz 2 2 2 6 w/ vDIMM 2.8

With this setup, I idle about 42C and max around 50. Do you think I can get it faster with a higher vCore, Chipset voltage, or vDIMM? My RAM normally runs at 370, if I OC much higher, I can either OC it more or put it down at 6:5, making it run at about 165MHz (underclocked)

Suggestions?

Locked :-/

Also... I'm wanting to buy another stick of RAM to prepare for Doom 3. Should I just buy another stick of 512MB PC3000, or do something different? Is my RAM a major thing holding me back from OCing?

I would think it is your ram cause your trying to run tight timings, and i dont think the pc3000 can do that. I dont really know for sure, as i have never used that ram. You could try loosening ram timing. And lower the vcore and chipset voltage. Dont think you need them that high at that speed. Just letting off unnessary heat.

And your right. For Doom3 you will want more ram.

you could loosen the ram timmings to see if you can get the FSB higher. Try 2.5, 2, 2, 11, or 2.5, 3,3, 11. Not sure what ram timings work best with your board.

With a Thermalright you could do more, but since it's a desktop 2500+, maybe only 100 MHz more.

Thermaltake a.k.a. thermalwrong is what's holding you back.

Power Supply brand also influences overclocking, your RAM could probably go higher FSB-wise if used with a multiplier unlocked CPU like a mobile Barton...

You know, you already have a more than decent video card and a nice system, I'd say the game will play just fine on it.

i'd have to disagree. my Thermaltake Polo 735 runs my A64 3200 @ 2.45ghz with the temp not gonig over 45C

any way, i'd say if you want a higher OC, you could do a few things,
1. get better RAM, like 3200 or 3500 if you want it to last longer.

2. well, actually, do this first, lossen RAM timings, and use a ratio to run your RAM slower than you fsb settings.

Yeah but he's using Socket A Thermaltake, similar heatsinks are near the bottom of the old list dominated by Thermalrights:

But I doubt he would get much of an improvement anyway since 2.2-2.3 GHz is what people usually get with old desktop Bartons and setups similar to his...
