I have been updating my computer over the last six months.

I have my human interface devices all squared away and I have updated my drives, graphics and power supply.

Currently the system is:

Case: Corsair Graphite 780T
Motherboard: Asus P5N-D
Memory: 8GB DDR2 (I don't recall the speed I just know I matched it to the speed of the processors fsb)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650
Cooler: Cooler Master V8 GTS
Graphics: 2 x NVidia GeForce GTX 970 in SLI (I understand that my processor is a bottle neck but my upgrade of the core of the machine is imminent.)
Power Supply: 750W
Primary Hard Drive: 480GB SSD Sata3
Storage Hard Drives: 2 x 3TB 7200 RPM Sata 3 1 x 1TB 7200RPM Sata 3 1x500GB 7200RPM Sata 2
Optical Drive: Blu-Ray Reader/DVDRW Sata 2

My planned upgrade:
Motherboard: MSI Z97A GAMING 7 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130843
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369
Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233545

Before I pull the trigger and order the equipment I wanted to make sure something isn't about to hit the market that is better in the next month or so.

The purpose of this machine is:
1) Gaming
2) Creston, AMX programming
3) Photoshop
4) C# programming
5) Video editing with premiere elements
6) DVD/Blu-Ray encoding to add new movies I have purchased to my digital iTunes library to stream to my Apple TV from my Mac Mini 2.3GHz Core i7

Are these good choices? Will this machine last a while?

You could go with a cheaper board, I recommend the ASRock Z97 Extreme6. Really though, it looks fine to me. Maybe a little overkill, but fine.

How old and what make/model is that PSU? It may be time to replace it aswell.

The power supply is a Corsair CX750M. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair...lack/8324202.p?id=1218872214205&skuId=8324202

I picked it up at Best Buy about a month ago when I upgraded my graphics cards because I needed one more power cable for the second graphics card.

I'm not sure about that ASRock Z97 Extreme6 motherboard. It doesn't have USB 3.1 and the PCIe for SLI would be x8 for the two instead of x16.

What is the difference in graphics performance between 2x PCIe 8x vs 2x PCIe 16x?

The PCIe lanes are divided up the same way on the MSI board, and every other SLI-capable board on Z97 that doesn't have a PLX chip.

USB 3.1? Meh, I don't think it's worth the extra $20, but that's your call.

Oh my you're right! Thank you I misread that on the MSI. I was thinking it was x16 for both in SLI.

Would it be a noticeable difference if the SLI was in x8 mode? Currently I am using a single 1080P screen however I would like to be able to drive all three 1080P screen while gaming.

I updated my motherboard and memory selections.
Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X Killer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157505
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104507

This shaves off ~$70 of my upgrade expense.

I guess x8/x8 is good enough. Thank you EarthDog.

I know this is ridiculous but I'm also trying to color match the hardware. My case is black with red LED fans in the CPU cooler and intake fans as well as the LEDs for power and fan speed on the top of the case.

I was thinking having two USB 3.1 ports might be useful but I guess I don't really need it.

Opinions?

Looks good to me, though I personally don't care for Killer LAN. Anything is better than Atheros though, lol.

I would also go for this kit instead of Kingston, as I've heard of problems with their RAM (though mostly on AMD platforms). That Kingston RAM would likely do fine though, if you don't want to spend the extra $5, or don't like the way the Ripjaws look. The Kingston kit also has tighter timings, if that matters to you.
