Hi! I'm new here, this looks like a great computer forum!

I just built a new computer(SocketA beast :) ) in a Aspire Xplorer case (great cooling possibilities, and it's glowing blue) I'll get some pics up later.

Now i found out that my Radeon 9700Pro is dead, so i'm gonna get a new card, under $180 would be nice. what would be a good card for my rig?

MoBo: Abit AN-7 Nforce2 Ultra400 (Zalman Passive NB)
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (Rocker PRO cooler)
RAM: 1280mb RAM PC2700 (2x512mb 1x256mb)
Power: 350w PSU
Sound: SoundBlaster Live 5.1
HDD: 1x80gb 1x200gb Western Digital 7200rpm 8mb cache
5.25: 1xDVD+-RW 1xCD-RW
Case: Aspire Xplorer
Fans: exhaust 1x120mm 2x80mm, intake 1x80mm

Thanks for your help!

That case is pretty cool, I have the same thing, just an older model. The LEDs are a bit annoying at night, esspecially in the dorm room, but still, it impresses  .

I would go with a GeForce6800 no-pro or a 6600 GT. Not too familiar with aTi's cards (too many 800 numbers) but somebody will probably end up posting on them.

Here's a link to a nice XFX 6800 for only $162.

Here's a link to a MSI 6600GT for $185 (plus a $30 mail-in rebate).

Hope this else. Check out ATi's stuff before buying too.

In addition to the aforementioned recommendations, ATI's site has some refurbs in your price range. Other threads on this forum have confirmed that the refurbs work and overclock very well.

Yes, this is a great forum! :welcome:

Thanks for the welcomes :)

My PSU is a Deltaco 350w silent power supply.

Is there a specific brand to look for in the Nvidia cards? or are they all equaly good.

Refurbs? forgive me, i don't know much about the latest video cards.

'HIS IceQ X700 Pro 128mb' is that card any good ? it comes with a big cooling device

In your price range I'd think you'd be best with a 6800. The non-gt non-ultra models can be had for a good price, and If you get lucky, you can unlock the extra 4 pipes to make yourself a 6800gt without the ddr3.

The 6800 is too much over here, the 6600GT is in m range, i'm going with that one!

I'm looking at these cards now:
Gainward 6600GT 128mb Ultra 1960 powerpack
Club 3D 6600GT 128mb
MSI NX 6600GT 128mb

need help choosing one :)

I would go with MSI. It won't fail.. great reviews at the egg.

ATI options would be an X800GTO or X800 Pro, I think the Pro is like $10over you budget but is faster than than the GTO

Asus, MSI, eEVGA, BGF, Saphire and ATI all make good cards

I ordered the MSI 6600GT today!

Read alot of good reviews on em today + they come bundled with alot of stuff. the Gainward card seems great too, but poor bundle and more pricey. couldn't find much info on the Club3d at all.

Hopefully i should have my rig complete by the end of the week :)

I would take that 3rd DIMM of Ram out of that PC and run in Dual Channel Mode. Your killing yourself with it in there. Let your 3200+ breath!

Yeah i wasn't sure which would be better 2x512 in dual mem or more ram in total.

so dual memory is better? does it work with PC2700 RAM too? cuz my 512s are 2700
