Ok, I've got a Gigabyte 7n400 Pro 2 Rev. 2 that won't boot. here's whats on it:
AMD|2600 /266 ATHLON XP
2X DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400
PNY GeForce 5700, 256mbDDR

When i try to boot, it gets as for as the Windows XP start up screen then flashes a bluescreen, and restarts. Not sure what the next step is. Do I have a bad board, or have I done something stupid?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try clearing the cmos by removing the battery.
replace battery and then check through all your settings in the bios to make sure they correspond with your equipment. Do not run your cpu at the memory rated speed of 200fsb as you cpu is rated at 133fsb.

AND WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!!!!!!!

Check the muliplier switches

I have this same board and it def has its quarks...first thing is check the multiplier switches, there are 2, one by the cpu and the 6-switch config one in the upper right of the mobo. Make sure you've got all the default settings.

Next possible issue, was your HDD previously in another computer? What happens is that if you switch the HDD to another mobo windows thinks your using the older mobo and thus tries loading drivers for that one instead of leaving it be and letting you install the new drivers. What I did to get around this when I installed my new board was have the old board in and completely uninstall all the drivers off the old board including the video drivers and then hook it back up to the new board and it booted up. Then make sure you restart for every new driver you install...cause I ran into the same machine check exception for trying to install all of them at once...

Another option that always works sadly...is to completely reformat your HDD and start with a fresh install of the OS. If you're using XP (and you're not choosing to reformat) they will probably require you to re-register the copy of the OS because of major hardware changes that are detected...real pain.

Hope this sheds some light.

Thanks, Madget. I was afraid i'd have to go back and uninstall the old mobo drivers. looks like I'll be busy tonight!
