PC Spec's listed below:

Basically was given this PC by a friend who has emigrated abroad (nice friend I know). The last time I fiddled inside the Bios of a PC or opened the case, the top processor at the time was a 486DX2, so I'm a little out of my depth , so forgive any silly questions.

I'm going to be using the PC for mainly the following, Adobe Photoshop, Video-editing, Gaming and Audio creation/converting.

It's running at default settings in the bios, but wanted to toy around with overclocking it a bit. Wanted to increase the CPU speed to say around 3.4/3.5ghz. The memory will only run at 1066mhz, if I change it in the bios to run at 1600mhz, I either get endless POST boots or warning errors about overclocking failures.

Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what settings I need to change for the cpu to achieve the desired speeds and be stable and also for the memory to run at the advertised speed.

I've checked that the memory modules are in the correct slots for triple channel memory, according to the motherboard manual.

  • Intel i7 930 2.8GHz Socket 1366 + Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator and Fan
  • Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 Socket 1366 Motherboard
  • Corsair 60GB Force SSD 2.5" SATA-II (Windows 7 64bit Ultimate - OS Drive)
  • Kingston 6GB (3x2GB) 1600MHz/PC3-12800 HyperX XMP Memory Kit CL8(8-8-8-24)
  • Gigabyte GTX 460 Super OverClock Edition 1GB Dual DVI HDMI PCI-E Graphics
  • BitFenix Colossus White Case
  • Antec EarthWatts 650W PSU - 80Plus Certified 12cm Fan 3x 12V Rails

If any more info is needed let me know and thanks in advance.

Give these settings a try for 3.52GHz. If you disable Turbo then you can also lower the Vcore from 1.35V to ~1.20 - 1.25V (estimated; your specific chip may not require 1.35V w/ Turbo enabled, and even less than 1.20V w/ it disabled)...

Thanks redduc900

I'm trying these settings now, so far so good, stable ;)
