gigabyte x670 aorus elite ax 7900x gskill 6000 ram. this is the slowest combination of parts to boot restart with no snap. runs well gaming converting movies and such like. did i get a dud or is this gigabyte?

second part. the Ryzen 9 7900 will run in the middle 90c by default. found an article on how to reduce the ppt/toc/edc values. now it will game and do number crunching (converting videos) with seeming little effort mostly in the 85c @ 125w (but mostly less) during operations.

any response to the slow boots and slow reboots (wtf) sharing information would be helpful. (i couldnt spell appreciated)

thank you..

In BIOS releases from the last few months, there should be an option called memory context restore or something similar. This option generally fixes boot times by skipping RAM retraining all the time. This is a common issue on the last-gen AMD regardless of motherboard brand. I'm not sure where it is in that specific Gigabyte mobo so you have to browse options in BIOS.

thank you for your speedy response.. went from f21 to f30 the combo works well with out a burp. just slow like a turtle at startup and reboot. did the msconfig and shut off everything that wasnt my virus program.. been gaming for awhile so ive learned the usual tricks over time.. i thought maybe i might have missed some road sign that comes with moving to a ddr5 platform.. thank you for your input....

actual operations are not affected.. monitored while gaming converting files etc.. no problemos

Right..... but did you find that option Woomack listed and see if it resolved your issue slow POST (assuming it's POST, see Dolk's question above, lol) issues?

ok.. subjectively after opting to move to a ddr5 platform i thing i expected my computer to come to life in under 30 seconds.. it does not. while i have concentrated on keeping the processor operating under 120W it will boot into a game and have a 94C high and then drop to 55C idle and 85C during gaming or converting video files with the real world wattage between 45W and a bump to 130W.. that was the original focus and with some mild tinkering the overall temps are well within tolerance and not blazing away at 170W that the 7900x is rated to run.

Dolk given that im using a 500g m2 for my os and everything else spread games on a 1t m2 and a couple of spindles for storage i assumed (*** being the spoiler) i would be wowed by just the basic boot.. it does not. i will leave this post and time my boot and reboot times and come back..

Woomak if you could share a link to find ram retraining.. in the mean time i will run some boot times and record them.

thank you all for your impute..

Is it a slow boot at the windows splash or at the BIOS splash screen?
ok looks like this: cold boot 20s to boot splash 45s to desktop reboot 25s to boot splash 70s to desktop

i did a short search and read a few posts on memory/ram training. nothing stuck out only that it might hamper fast boot..

Sounds like it's windows taking forever as you're past POST.

Was your windows installation fresh with the new hardware?
Have you tried reinstalling windows?
Have you tried booting at all stock speeds without the power limiting games you're playing?
What cooling do you have that your cpu sits at 55C idle and runs games at 94C??

Also, please edit to add more text. I merged your quadruple posts, lol.

cold boot to splash 20s boot splash 45s TOTAL TIME (cold boot to desk top 45s NOT 20s + 45s = 65s)
reboot 25s to boot splash 70s to desktop TOTAL TIME (reboot to desk top 70s NOT 25s + 70s = 95s)
i did not do a good enough explanation first time.

i have a 36mm aio cooling the possessor. the 7900x by default will use 170w of power and maybe throttle back. my games do not run at 94c nor does cinebench. loading the game the power does jump to 94c but drops to 85c @ 35w to around 130w. it will spike to 94c but this drops to the 85c @ 35w/130w.

Ok gotcha...that was confusing to me, lol.

Cold boot - 20s (to Windows Splash) + 25s to Desktop = 45s
Reboot - 25s (to Windows Splash) + 45s to Desktop = 70s

And by splash, you mean, the Windows splash screen where the little circle starts spinning, right? :)

Did you enable/disable what Woomack mentioned earlier for the memory training in the BIOS? I still feel the time to Windows is long, too, especially the reboot time.

I'll ask these questions again...
Was your Windows installation fresh with the new hardware?
Have you tried reinstalling Windows?
Have you tried booting at all stock speeds (with DOCP/XMP enabled) without the power-limiting games you're playing?

Also, is this Windows 11?

fresh installation Win11 bought and downloaded from net..

im not as computer adroit as i thought i might be.. thank you each and everyone that has contributed to this thread.. i am ready to say that i dont have a problem and ive not been forthcoming with the basic information in my original post to help you help me.. i wish to conclude my membership in Overclockers Forums and have my registration struck from this fine organization.

thank you for your time and suggestions

yours truly
