Just purchased a new Motorola SB4100 cable modem. I have the option to use USB or E- card. What will give the fastest download and surfing speed?

I have the same modem, and would say use an NIC for ease of setup.

There is not alot in it speed wise.

Honestly you probably won't notice a difference in speed. You'll only get 10baseT out of the ether and USB runs at about that speed. In either case the limiting factor is likely going to be your cable connection.

Personally I'd go with the ehternet card because to my mind they seem a little less flakey. Also, if you have other computers you can set up a LAN on 100baseT. That won't improve your internet speed any, but it will be faster between computers on the LAN.

3Com anything 905B and later. The SB4100 is a good modem too. Now, who's your provider. If it's Comcast or any other ISP owned by Comcast I would look elsewhere. Comcast is doing the @Home change over and their network is way below par.

My provider will be Cox Communication Really do not have any other choice's other than US West which I will never do. We had Sprint broadband but they took a hike in Tucson.

Cox use to use excite@home, but they now have their own system. I have not talked to anyone who has it, but I am going to take the chance.

using USB can actually kill your USB connections after a while. my modem is usb and every 14-16 days, it kills my usb. it also has a lot of problems with the drivers and wanting to BSOD me. if you can get an ethernet connection, do it.
