Going Cable Modem Need Router.

Getting ready to install a cable modem. I want to put my son’s computer and mine on the same system. It’s my understanding I will need to purchase a router so we can use the same IP address. Now if I understand correctly the cable will come from outside to the cable modem, cable modem to the router, router to each computer. Is this correct? What router should I buy? I will never have more than these two computers in the system.

I like the Linksys routers for their ease of use and configurability(is that a word? lol). They sell a 4 port router that will more than do the job. I use one on my network and love it.

I prefer the SMC Barricade because like the linksys it is very easy to configure, but it also has a built in print server...
