I'm going to build a new system which includes a 1600+. I was wondering what will give me the best temps but not cost almost as much as the cpu itself such as a Swifty does. I found a Golden Gate 40 at SVC for $15. I thought it was pretty good since it has 40cfm fan and cost is little. It also has a copper base and a molex connector with a connector to monitor rpms. This sounds too good to be true so I want to know what you think.

*Also, is this fan loud? I cant tell just by db but it says 48db and I think that is pretty loud.

I like it. I choose it over my sk-6 to cool my computer.
If you get it, you might have to lap it.
With that YS fan it might be a little loud but I have fans galore in my toy, I live in Az. it gets a little warm here.

Thanks for the fast reply:) Is it really necessary to lap it? I probably wont O/C it but I might for benchmarking. I'll only lap it if it doesnt make proper contact with the core. Did you have to lap yours? Why?

I can't remember if it was this hs or another one but one of them came a little rough on the base. It was no biggie, for the cost/performance.
I personally have lapped every hs I put on.

Cool, everyone that posted has an EPoX. I'm getting am 8K3A+, think it'll fit? Cowboy X, I did think that was loud. I had a 120 that was 43db and I dont use it anymore because it was too loud. Oh well still better than a Delta. OnDborder, if it is just a little rough, that is no problem. I thought I would have to level it out or something like that and end up screwing it up more. I guess I'll just deal with the noise. Only the best for my 1600+:)

I wouldn't necessarily say it is quieter than a delta cause i don't think several of their top fans in that category hit 48 . Someone can correct me but their 50 cfm 60 mm fan is probably around the same noise level.
