I want to get a golden orb for my piii 450 but the only slot 1 orb says its for seccII 600 and above. does that mean that it wont work with my proc? why not? If it cant work then what is my best alternative?

ty for help :)

Golden Orbs arn't very good coolers... But they'll work for your PIII ONLY if you have a SECC2 Cartridge for your processor, wich is unlikely because intel produced very few PIII SECC2 450MHz...

Intel made 2 versions of the pIII 450. the (Box SL3CC - OEM SL364 kB0) and the (Box SL37C - OEM SL35D kC0 )
BOTH of which were SECC2.
Look here..

The machining quality varies from Orb to Orb. Some are slightly concaved or convexed on the bottom, some aren't. Just because yours works for you doesn't mean every Orb will work for everyone. Most often lapping will fix a defective Orb, so it is mandatory IMO to lap all Orbs to true them up. But once they are true, they are decent coolers. But I'll stick with Alpha's and water-cooling thank you very much :)
