Hey,

I was reading the Apr 01 issue of MAXIMUM PC the other day, and in the "Ask The Doctor" column (page 64), there was info on how to change the info in the System Properties window.

I screwed around with it last night, and came up with this.....

Comments, ...opinions??

Mr B

Here's how to change the info as done above;

Open Notepad, and type in the following;

[General]
Manufacturer=(whatever you want here)
Model=(whatever)

Save the file as "oeminfo.ini" in the C:\Windows\System folder.

Choose what image you want, scale it to no larger than 180 pixels wide, by 114 pixels high. Set the background to transparent , and save the image as "oemlogo.bmp" in the same C:\Windows\System folder.

Right click on "My Computer", and enjoy your handiwork....

Cheers!

Way Cool Mr B! Thanks for the "how to". I'm gonna try that!
I notice an icon for "CPU Cool". Could that program help me get to 112 FSB?

If I can remember how I will post how to get the button that gives you the info to the sideof your piccy

Kryten,

That would be awesome if you remember how to... they refer to that, and show how to enter the text, but not how to make the button appear.

Slake, that program is similar to "Rain"...does the same basic thing. Actually, I think Rain is a better program. Jeff, (aka Dimmreaper) mentioned in a thread a long while ago that these programs aren't good for the cpu....can't exactly remeber why...perhaps he'll read this and elaborate.

I disabled all Rain type programs after reading his post....

Daniel....thought you'd get a kick out of that....=)

If you just wanna show the System Properties box... make sure the box is highlighted and hold the "Alt" button down then hit the "Print Screen" button.

I already knew that.. but I wanted to show the rest of desktop screen also. because it looks more real.. rather than just the property box itself.

This is turning into a grab-bag of tips and tweaks! :)
Thanks Alan.
Nice screen ƒ~ƒ‹ƒN•². Been meaning to ask you about the girl in the pic? :-D

saving that tip, going to have some fun with that one(nothing inappropriate!). Also, you should uninstall gator, I am convinced that is some form of spyware program, but it took forever to nuke it. Kept coming back!

I've heard that about Gator before.....I've been looking for something similar to it, that is KNOWN not to be....any suggestions?? (laziness all around...hehehe...too lazy to type everything in, and too lazy to look for a replacement. DOH !!)

I also am curious, 1st off, who's the girl/nurse?? and 2nd, how did you change the "Windows logo" in the monitor graphic?? I'd rather have something there other than the dorky Windows logo myself. Please...do tell....

Mr B

Yeah, me too.

That is, how do you change the picture on the computer screen?

try download accelerator athttp://www.speedbit.com
I use it and i like it a lot. no spyware

wait, what does gator do. I never gave it chance, it was forcefully installed without my knowledge onto my system so I immediately nuked it. Well not soon enough I guess, right after that got installed, I start getting a very small trickle or porn mail into my inbox. Argg, I was able to avoid it for one and a half years.

Gator is a small program that fills in forms, ID's ,passwords, usernames, etc...with one click. Ultimate in lazy...

For example, when I first login here, when the page to log in loads, a small box pops up on the screen. I can then click one button, and the username and password are automatically filled in. Works for anything requiring name address, e-mail, etc...Works pisser when bidding on e-BAY (for sniping) I've gotten three bids (first two were "outbid", third one won it) off in 27 seconds...that's how I got my C600 in my "sig".

Download Accelerator is a different animal...speeds up downloads (got broadband here...don't need it), but does it auto fill in forms?? Thought it just "accelerated downloading".

Mr B

Gator is spyware. It does fill in your forms, etc, but it also keeps track of all your online activities(what sites you visit), and the next thing you know you start receiving loads of targeted spam.

Do you by chance know of a similar program that is known NOT to be spyware??
