GPU Thermal Grease Change(with pics)
A couple of weeks back just after returning from a beautiful holiday in Cuba I decided that my graphics card could do with an upgrade. Reason being the last one I had Geforce FX5700LE was being a pain in the ***. Every now and again the drivers would need re-installing and things were getting corrupt. After a long and lengthy process of finding out what was causing the problem I came to the decision that it was my graphics card.
Since I cant really afford a 6000 series or anything really over the FX series I was a bit stuck. So I turned to eBay. I picked up a MSI Geforce FX5700 for £40 / $69USD.
Today I decided to take a look if the Thermal grease needed changing. It darn well did! It was a mess, the photos dont really justify it, but there was thermal grease all around the GPU! It was as if someone had just splattered it on there not taking anytime or care.
So outcame the Arcticlean solutions and some AS5. After about 3/4 of an hour she was finished. I sat there with my razor blade carefully spreading the AS5 about until i was happy.
So the message to you all is - If you buy something off Ebay make sure you thoroughly check it out...you could be in for a nasty suprise like I was.
