I am in the process of placing my orders for my computer upgrade and decided to do only a minor upgrade this year. I am planning on eventually upgrading to a 64 bit processor, but I am waiting until Microsoft releases their 64-bit OS and there are more official 64-bit drivers available, so I am only doing a minor upgrade this year.
Anyway, my system specs are below and currently have a eVGA 6800 GT on the way. My question is will I see any performance increase in going from a GB mobo to an i875 mobo? The only advantage I see in upgrading my mobo is that it may possibly give me a better OC since right now I am running at default voltage and seem to have hit a wall in my clock speed.
If there is a reasonable performance improvement in moving to an i875 mobo which board do you suggest? I don't need a board with IDE RAID since I am getting a seperate RAID if I upgrade my mobo, but I do need one with onboard LAN. I am currently considering the Abit IC7-G Max II Advance. The Max 3 is a little to much when I total in an IDE RAID card that I need since I don't have any SATA drives yet.
Thanks for your suggestions.
