Thanks Wingman. Should I grab the black edition like you did? I'm seeing several models and I'm a bit confused I think. I believe the FTW 1070 Gaming has the highest factory clock, yes (1,594 vs 1,607)? But worth the extra $$ over the SC black edition?

The price is pretty good too for the SC black edition.

Is the extra $40 worth it for the FTW?

Also, after looking around I stumbled upon this 1080 for a couple hundred more. Is this worth the extra $$ over a 1070? I had earned enough of a bonus to be able to get a 1070 + RAM after all, but, after looking at this for hours I'm just not sure if I really even need all of this and I'm still on the fence about getting more than 8GB of RAM for the future and a cheaper video card.

I purchased the Black Edition SC GTX 1070 because the overclock is what I needed and the cost is great price for value.:) FTW has clocks 1607 MHz / 1797 MHz a slight increase in FPS ~1% compared to the SC 1594 MHz / 1784 MHz. Also the FTW has a lager cooler and dual Bios for Modification failure of Bios.

When running my SC Black Edition GTX 1070 at stock settings the maximum temp is 70c boost is 1896MHz.

if you are playing at 1080 keep the 960 if its working for you now, bigger monitor doesnt mean you need a faster gpu, 1080p is 1080p is 1080p whether its 15" 46" or 110" still the same load on the gpu.

Hmmm, good to know, especially about the beefier cooler. My office/game room ambient temperature is pretty warm most days out of the year so cooling will be at a premium for me. :D

No worries, thanks for the reply! While I can run a heavily modified 4k/8k textured Skyrim and a decently modified Fallout 4 pretty good my FPS isn't as high as I'd like on my 960. Plus, I want to be prepared for when the next Borderlands, Elder Scrolls, and maybe Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PC when/if they come out. These should all be coming out within 1~2 years from today so while I have the money I'd like to upgrade. Life situations change pretty quickly for my wife and I so I may not have the $$$ to upgrade at that time. Plus we are trying to have a baby and my god those little ******** are expensive once they get born. lol...

In 2017 I'll be spending more time playing games on PC versus what I do now so I could use the extra beef.

tell me about it im up to 3 :D lol

I just purchased a 1080p 144hz monitor and running my FPS at 144 is sweet for no blur in FPS shooters. The only draw back is BF1 I have to run on medium for 144fps with the GTX 1070.

You're not the first person to tell me that BF1 is heavy on requirements. Good thing I don't have much interest in that game after playing the beta on my XBOX One. ;)

I know what you are taking about BF1 uses GPU power. The XBOX resolution is dynamic with BF1, I'm glad I don't have that on the PC I like to chose my settings.

The resolution changes during gameplay??? Wow. That seems like a big work around.

Yes, during game play on the XBOX BF1 resolution drops down when FPS falls.

Gears of war 4 has that option on the PC, however it can be disabled so the resolution is static.

Hey can you all sort out of that EVGA 1070 catching fire thing is a crock like I think it is? I have a few people telling me not to buy EVGA but that's my favorite brand of GPU. Is it true that this only occurs when you use benchmarking programs and not under regular game playing? If I'm dropping ~$400 on a GPU I want to make sure it is the right one.

It is a Crock of bull they don't catch fire and there is no recall, just ask EVGA get the correct information from the company not the Web. EVGA 24 Hour / 7 Day Phone 1.888.881.3842. http://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

EVGA tests them to run Furmark.

I figured as much, thanks Wingman. I have to wait 2 weeks before I get my bonus money...so the waiting game begins. LOL

EVGA told me there were a few cards on the web that had a PWM problem and it was blown out of proportion, then the public wannabe engineers demeaned cooler running PWM when running furmark and EVGA delivered a thermal pad kit and Bios update for faster running fan profile.

The PWM can run safely at 120c

My card was updated from the factory with the kit and Bios fan profile. http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/

When you buy a new card it will be updated from the factory to run Furmark 24/7 well within the lower end of specifications.

Great info. Much appreciated. That's why I like it here, so many helpful people. :)

Well we had an unexpected bill so my bonus was cut in to so I had to step down my purchase of the 1070, but, I am still thrilled that I was able to get a 1060. :D I think it is a good choice since I have no interest in 4K or VR.

I decided on this one which I just bought for $289.99: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB FTW GAMING ACX 3.0, 6GB GDDR5. It was on sale and I couldn't resist saving some extra $$$ which I can spend on other things I want.

I did get some useful help here that maybe others can use when they come here searching for answers so kudos to you all for participating! :D :D
