Following all the main page discussions about the descrepancy of "in-Socket" readings for CPU Temps...I'm wondering how I can go about determining what my actual or "safe-guess" temps are.

I'm currently running my first AMD chip Duron 750 @ 1000 @ 1.75v. I'm using a CAK38 for cooling and right now my idle temps for the Via Hardware Monitor show 35c idle and 45c load after 1/2 an hour of Prime95. To be on the safe side...I adjusted the CPU compenstation temp in MBM4 up about 5c to keep things safe. Is this good practice? How can I determine what I should actually be seeing? I'm hearing the CAK38 can show misleading temps. Help!!
