I turned on my laptop the other day to find that MSN Messenger 7.5 would not start. Microsoft MAKES you upgrade. I and some others I assume don't like the new live messenger for a few reasons so here is a tip to avoid the upgrade. On windows 2000 older MSN versions work perfectly fine so all you have to do is make MSN think its running on windows 2000. You may think that tricking MSN 7.5 to think its in windows 2000 won't work because 7.5 didn't work in 2000 but thats not ture.

Here is the noob friendly guide:

Go to start, then run.
Type in C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger
Right-click 'msnmsgr.exe' and click Create Shortcut
Right-click the new shortcut and click Properties
Go over to the Compatibility tab
Mark the check box and select Windows 2000 from the list
Click Apply and OK and your done.

You don't even need change any other shortcut (nor can you because windows protects them) It changes the program's settings. Now that MSN thinks you run 2000, you can be talk to everyone without using a vista like GUI. I hope this helps people as much as it did me :)
