hello, all!

need some non-overclocking advise on a mobo. putting together a system for my dad. looking for a good mobo to go with a 850 or higher t-bird. this system will NOT be overclocked, but would like a board that has integrated sound, LAN, and possibly video and will run stable

any advise??

Integrated boards generally suck. Any mobo will cost about UK£90 - 120. Pick one with the KT133A.

You should be able to get the cheapest KT133A mobo (o/b sound) for £90, PCI LAN card £15, 8MB AGP garphics - £25.

I haven't seen many Socket A mobos with VGA, but you can basically point and choose. THe KT133A chipset is stable.

Agreed,

I have had many experience with integrated boards, mostly from PC Chips.

You will find that if you have integrated sound, LAN and video you will only have one or two PCI slots and maybe an ISA. They generally don't put AGP slots with boards with onboard sound.

If money is a big issue here and you have to go onboard don't go for the onboard video, you will regret it later when it comes to upgrade.

If possible spend another £30 or so buying a sperate cheap sound and LAN card. And a half decent vide card (e.g. 32mb riva TNT2) they are quite cheap (about £40) and do the job.

Try to avoid if possible.

Hope this helps.
