wow, its been that long?

and i thought a 4 gig zen back in the day was HUGE

or was it like 6 or 30? i dont quite remember (this was around 99' or so)

hah, perfect timing for me too!

i just bought a 4 Gig Zen MP3 player. ( i don't like Ipods. i don't like the style, and i can't stand Itunes! ). I just bought this yesterday too. ( and i know, 4 gigs today isn't alot. But i'm mainly using this at work, where i only listen to it for about 8 hours. And i use it alot for podcasts that i can download in MP3 format. I don't need a MP3 player than can hold 30 Gigs. That, and their boot-up times take too damn long for my uses. So i prefer the smaller Solid State version. Plus, the model i got can accept SD cards, so i can always slap in more disk space if needed )

Nice. Yeah when I had an Ipod I used Paddox instead of Itunes (I think its still in alpha stages, was when I was using it, but the program itself is only ~750kb and only uses 3-5mb of ram.) But then I got tired of the hdd in it locking up once a week since the day I got it, requiring me to smack the back of it a few times to get it to work again. I got an Archos 605 for Xmas and now I have to put up with everyone asking why I didnt get an Ipod touch. I'm not trying to flame Ipods, they are pretty sleek MP3 players.

Heh, I remember when I thought my Minidisc player was all the Jazz. I had that thing for about four years until I just recently upgraded

Man, I had a few mp3 players, notably a pair with about 256 MB of RAM. I told myself I didn't need any of those fancy schmancy 512 MB ones. I still remember my parents buying me a spanking Sony casette player back in 6th or 7th grade.

Today, I have a 30GB iPod. And my thought is, "Damn, I wish I went for something a little bit larger". :santa:

Yeah, reminds me of my first MP3 player. It had 64mb of memory, just enough for a CDs worth of songs at a semi decent bitrate. I was like "this is so cool! Its like a cd player only the size of a small pen!" Then I got a Sony cd player that supported MP3/AAC cds and had an internal am/fm radio and the mp3 player kinda faded to the back of my closet. I liked that MP3 player, even though it used AA batteries that lasted only an hour or two, had an LCD that only displayed the track number, and every time I got the software working I went out and bought a lottery ticket since it crashed more then me in driving school.

My dad has a Creative Zen 30 gig MP3 player. god, that thing takes too damn long to boot up! ( in reality, its like...15 seconds...ish. i didn't time it ). but it was still too long for my preferences. That, and hard drives kill the battery life.

plus, mine is pretty thin, so it fits in my pants pockets pretty well.

I remember my first MP3 player. i forget the brand, but it held a whole 32 megs worth of songs! held up to about 10 songs, depending on the quality, and length of the song. I always put my favorite songs on it, and would hook it up to the computer speakers in the school's computer lab. :D ahhh, memories.

17.60 seconds, never seemed like that long before...

4 hours and 30 minutes for 192kBps? (1180kbps) encoded DVD video?

And something like 15 hours music is awesome, plus I'm going to be upgrading the battery.
And the screen is very nice ;)

I still have that Rio!

I still use my minidisc player every day when I work out. It's got a great grip and the single AA battery lasts about 6 months with 2 hours daily use. My minidisc has been dropped on the treadmill 100's of times. Once it even came out of my pocket while going 75mph on my motorcycle. I went back and got it and it was just a little scraped up but it still works like new.

My first mp3 player was a 32mb Diamond Rio player. I might still have it in a box somewhere. That thing was expensive when I bought it new.

I still have my Creative Nomad Jukebox 6MB, thing's about the size of a Diskman and weighs twice as much. I have a 40GB 2.5" drive & a modding guide that I want to try soon. I just need to find a good freeware Hex/Disk Editor to image to drives.

My friend was the first person I knew who bought an MP3 player (I believe it was a RIO actually) with 64MB of storage. We kept asking him why he didn't just get a cd-player.

I sort of envy kids these days for this- It must be nice growing up without carrying a discman on the schoolbus. Anti-skip tech was never quite good enough.
