Does anyone know at which FSB speeds I have to worry about my hard drive busting on the 8kha+?

I'm planning on doing a 12 X 166 setup to get 2000 MHZ using PC-2700, watercooling, volt mod and an XP-1900 AGOIA

AudiMan,

There is no magic "oops my hard drive is corrupt" number. There are just so many other factors at play. I can tell you that at a 166FSB on the 8KHA+ which only has 1/4 dividers your PCI bus will be a 41.5. Now I think you will be OK but pushing it. I think you can do it. What HD is this with? People have run 180+ FSB on this board without incident and some have reached 160 and have had the HD's corrupted. Only trying will tell...

I had the FSB at 200 on this board, but not for a long time. It also worked fine for a bit at 187 FSB. I am using a Maxtor 40 gig ATA 133 drive.

If you go to aoaforums.com then you will find out that someone used an oscilliscope on the PCI bus with a 166 MHz FSB and the readings came out to be 33 MHz, so apparently there is a 1/5 divider. The Epox tech also didn't disagree. He said something like "Good job" or something.

Also if the 8KHA+ only had a 1/4 divider, how fast would the PCI / AGP busses be running at 200 FSB? Or even at 220 MHz? People have gotten it that high using software.

Go too high and you will know it. Seems the registry goes to xxxx first. Need to reload all again.:(

Funny you mention the dividers, read this:

You can't believe anyone about those dividers. I'm always hearing different stories. The highest FSB that I've seen on the 8kha+ is about 220. 1/4 of 220 is 55 a MHz PCI Bus and a 110 MHz AGP Bus?

I've reached a 200 FSB on that board, so I was running a 50 / 100 MHz AGP bus? Hmmmm,,,, Is this right, or am I not calculating something properly?

I just responded to another post of yours concerning the PCI divisor issue. I don't know for sure how these boards can run that high, they just do.

As far as the hard drives, I've had good luck with both Maxtors and Western Digitals, using 20G ATA100 7200 units from each.

By the way, I'm using the infamous "BETA" BIOS ver 8KHAL, there are several reported good ones out now. Also I'm using Crucial PC2100, Millenium Glaciator II, LyncSys 10/100, with a 400W P-S from CompUSA.

And the debate rages on!

Good Luck!

Well hopefully the 333 based epox boards with have a definate answer to this issue :)

I'm sure it will.
