I just installed HDtach and ran the benchmark and wanted to compare some numbers. I'm using a Diamond Max plus 40GB HDD in my system. It seems like my read bust speeds are kinda slow. I've read some results from other people on amdmb.com but their systems are mostly RAID setups so it's not comparable.

Here are my results:
RAT: 12.3ms
Read Bust Speed: 32.3 mbps
Read max: 33035.0 kps
Read min: 26121.0 kps
Read Avg: 31636.0 kps
Cpu utilization: 6.9%

Any ways to improve this or change some setting on the board to improve performance?

Well I'm using Windows 98SE and think the patch is for Windows 2K. Maybe that would make the difference; I hear that there are probs with the 2000 OS and 686B on Iwill.

I was under the impression that my HDD speeds weren't too hot. Maybe I was comparing to RAID numbers though. The only reason I decided to benchmark it was because I was looking through the system properties disk drive setup and noticed that DMA wasn't selected. I think it defaulted when I reinstalled my OS a few weeks ago. I benchmarked it before and after and just about tripled my score.

I did decide to try out the VIA atapi drivers that no one installs after reading some posts about them improving performance and it did work but only a minute difference. I'm using Luckydaze's 0426 BIOS btw.
