Wow thats one of the cleanest G5 case mods I seen before. The idea for the 12v 5v switch is pretty cool too. Whats the clearance on your cooler with that aluminum shroud? Looks like a perfect fit!

I've got about an inch give or take, it is indeed a good fit. The air isn't shrouded into the heat sink or anything but it still keeps the CPU right near room temp. Those fans move a lot of air, even with low noise. I'd like to get a piece of aluminum the same size as the face of that G5 CPU cover/shroud and cut out or etch in "Xeon", or maybe the Intel Inside logo or something, and perhaps stick an LED behind it. That G5 cover is the only thing really out of place.

A piece of brushed aluminum that size shouldn't be to hard to bend to replace the G5 one. I am sure a local shop would laser cut a "XEON" logo on to it for pretty cheap, especially if you already have the CNC program for it. Just scuff up one side of a piece of acrylic and light it up with some LED's

Either way, this case looks amazing. Would did you end up doing with that water cooling stuff anyways?

It's in a box. May end up using it, probably not right off though. Going to see how my temps are with all fans wired at 3V (except the power supply fans).

Well, I need to manage the wires up top, sand the JB weld holding the front IO ports and paint it silver... Snap a few final pics, possibly do the sleep fix though I don't really need it. Then I think I'll be doing a write up for the front page. The machine is still running rock solid, my only complaint is the bit of noise on the audio output. Thanks for the comments guys!

Hi This is My first Post here and I am doing a very similar mod. I would like to know what you ended up doing with the rear io pannel? Its what im stumped on right now short of buying a motherboard tray and cutting the whole back up which i do not want to do.

That's what I didn't want to do. Mine looks a little crude, but it's a very minor part... and it's on the back. I also get to use the existing rear fans and expansion slots. (PCI / AGP (or in my case, PCI-E))

Was this ever made into a front page article? I think it'd be a cool one.

I've been lazy... and moving kinda. I actually just got this hackintosh (aka my only desktop) set up last night... Perhaps tonight I'll wonder into Word 2011 and start writing it up.

HostThenPost.org had to dump all their images I guess, which sinks because that's what I've been using vs my own server for a good while. I'll have to upload pics again sometime...

Just reupload, if the files are the same as they were the checksums will match and all the images in the thread will re-appear.

You can thank child porn for htp being emptied.

Ahh thread resurrection!

I believe HTP stands for the service that he was using to host the pictures (HostThenPost).

I'd be interested in seeing his work as well, as I also have a G5 case as well that I've been eyeballing at gutting out and sticking an x86 system inside of.
