I'm using an Aopen AK73 Pro Socket A mobo, there is NO thermal diode under the chip, yet I have temperatures for it?

I heard that intel chips have internal diodes, but not amd's. How does it do it?

I know that this site has been going on about drilling thermacouples into heatsinks e.t.c, is an internal diode not better than this??
