People have posted that they installed the 5.1 drivers on their systems, but how did they do this?!?
Every time I try to install them the "SBL51.EXE" that you can d/l from soundblaster.com website tells me that I don't have a sblive5.1 and cannot continue, I made an earlier post and was directed to a website
( http://www.geocities.com/shs_3dfx/sblive.html ) that apperently shows you how to install the 5.1 drivers, unfortunately, after updating my drivers using the WDM drivers you d/l from this site, the SBLIVE51.exe installer STILL says that I do not have the approperate card, what am i doing wrong here?
Has anybody sucessfully installed the 5.1 drivers and software on a non-5.1 sblinve?
if so HOW DID YOU DO THIS?!

Thanks!

Very true! The Dolby Digital 5.1 Decoder is strictly hardware. So I dont see how installing the drivers for it would increase performance at all?

Creative was (before the 5.1 line came out) said to be planing to include 5.1 decodeing in future driver upgrades and actually made statements of this and of the vast variability of the emu 10k1 core processor of the SBLive! and that it is an expandable piece of hardware.
Though it seemed that creative decieded to simply put out a new line of cards instead...
Are you possitive that the decodeing is truely hardware based? and is not simply a software issue?
Because, honestly, knowing this industry I wouldn't be surprized if it wasn't just a cash grab...

If both cards use the EMU 10K1 sound processor, that is apperently upgadeable and which can be kept "...up to date with continual
upgrades supporting future technologies, functionality, and features"<creative's own words here from the Live! manual>.
what are the exact harware differences betwween these cards? There doesn't seem to be any extra hardware that allows it to preform 5.1 & AC-3...so logicly it must be a software issue, shouldn't it?

just making an observation, really..
but your opinion would be appreciated.

I did look around a bit for exactly what the difference in hardware is. Mostly what I could find is X hardware doest this.........Y hardware does this. No one had any comparisions on how similiar X was to Y.

If that makes sense, it only fortified my belief that it's totally hardware. I even looked at a few "off color" sites for hacks of some kind or software that could decode (if that's what it's considered) 5.1

I don't have anything with definitive proof, but the little I found didn't help either of our theories.
