If you can handle an extra three dollars + shipping I would say XP 1600+ from newegg.com. if you can handle an extra eight dollars then you can get the 1700+. Good luck and here is the Link.

Edit: you might want to read up on the K7S5A it supposedly has some problems with the higher thunderbirds.

I haven't had any problems with my k7s5a and 1.4 TB. It's not sexy, but it works.

New CPU's announced, and another price cut at newegg.com. Gotta' love it.

Get the xp1600+ over the xp1700+ as the difference in speed is only .07mhz slower and it's cheaper.
I won't make that mistake again.

You just have to set your $ limit. Is it worth a few more $ to get the xp1800+? It really up to you. If you don't mind spending a few more $, then get the fastest cpu you can get.
Just keep in mind that you can buy more parts (case fans and the like) for your system w/ whatever you save.

simplicity

most building experience involves-- ecs K7S5A-- including--
1.4 T bird... running 24 x7 since midOctober;
1600+ XCP since ending Nov...

effortless builds and startups, no BIOS gyrations necessary..
very very smooth !!!

[ should emphasize that these are simple systems, barebones components- but v. good ones, really good DDR RAM, serious PSU's...]

Best bang for the $ is right.

I just ordered the ECS + a 1 ghz Duron with the AK7, Delta 80mm fan and a Rheostat from Sidewinder incase the Delta is too loud.

After the price drops some more on the Athlon, it's a Shuttle AK31 + the Athlon XP.

Hurry up Newegg!

Complaining about only a .07 speed increase is kinda silly, dont all the XP's step up by .06 and .07 in speed? So just look at at the price jumps, at pricewatch the jump isnt very big till 1800 to the 1900, so 1800 would be the best for the dollar.

I Recomend Saving A Lil $$ For A Sweet CPU Because The K7S5A Has Very Limited OverClocking Ability. All In All Its A Pretty Descent MOBO.I Have Had My Rig Together Since Dec. And Its Crashed About 4 Times And I Keep It Running Most Of The Day Every Day.So I Would Say Its Pretty Damn Stable.:)
