Actually JUST replaced my TIM. Ran 3dmark multiple times to heat the card up. Stock TIM was 72c loaded with 1.3v, Shin-Etsu 7783 w/ 1.3v was 68c. Dropped 4c :D Thermalpads might need to be adjusted, but mine were just fine.

Also, updated my 3dmark. 1275mhz//1750mhz benched.

Nice clocks doz! Your card beats mine by a bit. Nice drop in temps too, I'll have to swap out TIM as well. You should turn off tessellation for a bit more 3DMark powah. ;)

I thought you were supposed to leave tessellation on for 3dmark11? I only have the basic 3dmark software and when I view my results online it says they are invalid because I have tessellation disabled. Of course, turning it off results in better numbers, but are those numbers valid?

Depends on what you're going for. I'd never turn tessellation off for comparison numbers in a review, but it's legal at HWBot, so for pushing clocks on the bot I disable it. Otherwise, I'd be left far behind. :D

Just got my hands on a Sapphire 7970 and I want to see how far this thing will go. Do I still need to flash my bios to up the volts or can I do that in trixx or another OC program now?

Im not stable at that at all ben. I CANNOT play BF3 with those settings. Last night, I tried memory at 1750mhz and the guys started looking like Fulgore (Killer Instinct!!) with lasers coming out of their eyes lol. Had to lower it. So far im working it up though. Currently at 1.25v 1200mhz core and 1700mhz mem stable while gaming.

Looking great doz!

Yea I'm not stable at those clocks either, it's just for benching fun. You also for sure don't want to play bf3 with tessellation disabled. It's nowhere near as pretty!

Yeah, BF3 is great with the 7970. I get better FPS on Ultra settings than I did with high settings on my 6970 clocked at 1003//1476.

I think Im capped on my memory at 1700mhz unless I overvolt it but I believe my core may have a bit more in it. Testing 1225mhz as we speak.

So you guys bench with some artifacts then? As long as the fps/score goes up and you don't crash its all good? If so, I can probably push higher than what I'm currently at. I really want to break 3k heaven. I'm quite happy with 1900 mem being stable though (+ 10mv over stock, 1825 on stock)

In competitive bechmarking, if it finishes a bench withoug crashing or locking up, it's stable enough. Some gpus will lower your score if artifacting gets too bad though, so just watch out for that. Haven't seen it with these cards though. They either finish or the comp locks up for me.

Artifacting can also lower scores because the video isn't being processed properly. If you are going for the best possible bench then a few artifacts here and there are ok as long as the benchmark finishes. ;)

Cool, looks like I get to push my card much more then. That doesn't cause any damage to the cards though does it? I can't imagine it does as long as temps and volts are safe. I just usually by stuff when its been out for a while. Frying a $200-250 card is one thing, frying a $550+ one is another.

There are no guarantees of course, but without crazy temps or voltage, it's pretty hard to kill a card. It's rare you can even get software to give you enough voltage to hurt one. Nothing out now can even over-volt high enough to heat these up too badly.

I've heard of at least one case where someone got artifacts while benching - and the artifacts continued after lowering clock speeds and outside the benchmark.

I didn't see it myself and can't verify if it's true but it's enough to make me abort a benchmark as soon as I see any artifacting. I'm not poor but I'm not rich enough that $550 is chump change either.

Added 7950 to the title, added TRIXX & Afterburner links.

Anyone have a 7950 to play with?
