i've been thinking my ibm hdd was slow for a while now, ever since i took my windows xp partitions off with a win98se cd.

i have no clue what good scores are, but i know this can't be a good score judging by how high the numbers go up to.

Random Access Time - 8.3ms

Read Burst Speed - 4.5mbps

any help is greatly appreciated. if someone could please confirm that this is ridiculously low, i'll be trying partition magic to see if i can fix it, if not i'll be ordering a new drive and trying to RMA this one.

thanks

Do the IBM Diagnostic Test. If it fails your reason is approved to RMA the drive.

IT does seem some what bad though.

The access time is fine (faster than my IBM HDDs) but the read burst speed seems way low (I get around 38000kps or 38mbps as an average).

ya, 4 seemed really low to me.

i just ran the drive fitness test from IBM, said i had no errors.

maybe i should try updating my bios?

every time i try to load any via4in1 drivers my agp ends up going to crap and i have to reload my registry. I'm clueless as to my problem.

DOH!

hehe i've only turned on that comp twice since i re-installed my OS, seems i forgot to turn DMA on ;)

well i'm getting 41mbps peak and like 39mbps average.

there goes my "bad hard drive" theory, now i need to find out why my freakin 3d benches are so weak.
