Dear Anyone.

Just bought an M-Audio 2496 because I wanted to use music software and that's the affordable one everyone on another site recommended. Handles the music software fine. CD's, MP3s, fine.

Thing is, I can no longer hear sounds on any web page! No streaming audio, no online radio stations, nothing! Please, I LIKE my online radio, isn't there any way to hear it through an M-Audio Audiophile 2496?

Conversely, I still have the old 5.1 soundcard which played all websites perfectly. Is it possible to use 2 soundcards on one system, either via a caddy or by plugging them both simultaneously into the motherboard? If yes, what would - in detail, please, I can build basic computers but I was taught before all this sound technology took off (gawd, I'm old!) and so I'm struggling a little here! - you have to reset everything to so the music software still went through the new soundcard but the websites were directed through the old one?

If possible, I'd like to direct the website sounds and streamed audio from Live 365 through the new soundcard to hear them, the M-Audio, because it would make life easier. But if I have to use the old 5.1 soundcard, then so be it!

Yours in sad silence

I think you might be better off doing a fresh windows install with the soundcard installed while you do it. It could be a whole host of problems. It would probably take more time to figure out for you via this website than it would to just reinstall.

Re-install if possible.

What soundcard were you using before? I dont think a reinstall of Windows is on order...you just need to make sure you get every last bit of whatever driver you were using before out of there. Ive changed soundcards many times on this setup and have been on the same Windows installation for around 2 years. Look for Driver Cleaner Pro, it works wonders. You can use 2 soundcards, just make sure the manufacturers are different or youll get driver conflicts. The problem with using 2 soundcards, both wont be able to play WDM audio at the same time, its either one or the other. Some applications let you choose which audio driver you want to use, but they are few and far between.

Thanks for the replies! Decided to just stick with the 2496 as the only card and disabled the onboard sound.
