Okay I’m tired of the roar of my GlobalWin WBK38 and have decided to go with water-cooling. My setup: PIII933 @ 1080, Asus CUSL2-C, 512MB, 30 & 60GB ATA100, DVD, 40/12/32 plextor, SBlive, GF3Ti500, 300watt HEC PSU. I am prepared to spend around $200 for all the stuff needed. I can't decide on a few parts.

1. Should I get the Eheim 1048 (158gph, 3/8”) or the Eheim 1250 (317gph, 1- 1/2” 1- 3/4”). I doubt the PIII puts out that much heat for the eheim 1048 not to be able to handle it. But if I upgrade the system to a P4 in the future, will the eheim 1048 be able to handle that heat load? (yes it depends on the radiator too, that’s next)

2. Thinking of either getting the Black Ice Prime (360KCal per hour) or the Black Ice Xtreme (790KCal per hour). Once again the same question, will the black ice prime be able to handle the PIII heat output (I think I already know the answer to this, YES). Then the second part, will it be able to handle the heat output of a future system upgrade of a P4? The biggest radiator that I can fit in the front of my case is about 7” x 7” x 9” before it runs into the motherboard. That of course leaves no room for the pump….

3. And now the water block. I was thinking of getting the Swiftech MCW372. I don’t think the DangerDen MAZE3 will work with PIIIs, will it? How well does the MAZE1 perform, should I get that over the swiftech? I will have to get a new waterblock when I upgrade my computer, right? What type of hold down style should I be getting: middle socket tab, 3 socket tab, etc?

4. Tubing size. I’ve read other posts about this and still can't make up my mind. I’m thinking on going with the 1/2” just so everything is ready for a system upgrade. Also silicon tubing is the stuff to get? That can be bought at Home Depot or PetCo cheaper that online, right? Same goes with the clamps and T joint.

I have attached an image of what my computer looks like now so you can get an idea of how much (or little) room I have. That’s a 80mm fan on the back by the CPU. Another 80mm is in the front in that beige plastic thingy.

Eheim pumps are really good. I just got a 1250 and I’m very pleased with it. It’s just a little large.

Instead of a Black Ice, why not save a few bucks and get a heater core?? I have one, and I've heard they work just as good or better.

I think you should go with ½” silicon tubing. I got mine a Danger Den and it’s wonderful stuff.

BTW are you going to put your pump inside your case?

Yea, Ehiem pumps are really good, I would also go with the 1\2"
fittings.
It is true that heater cores perform just as good as any other radiator.
Also I would go with DangerDens Maze2 waterblock, or you could just make your own like I'm trying.

cyber mouse: yes I was planning on putting the pump & radiator inside the case in that front area.

kttdkt: Unless I'm mistaken, the maze2 only works for AMD...I've got PIII.

The Heater Core sure is a lot cheaper, think I've been swayed to that radiator now.

Just make sure you have enough space. I had to put my pump under my case cuz my graphics card was to dang big and it hit the hose that came out of it. :p

You are right.

Looking at your case, you should be able to put a huge heater core on the top of your cse between the PS and the front of the case- possibly without losing a drive bay (but you could probably spare one anyway). That's where mine is going- its about 6*11. Just cut slots or holes in the top- or one big rectangle- perhaps several blowholes, and you're set. ... and heat rises too.

O sorry, I thought you were running an AMD, I'm not sure if they make a maze for a Pentium 3 but I'm sure for a Pentium 4

I think I'll be getting the Eheim 1250, The Heater Core, Swiftech MCW372, 1/2" tubing. One last question.....

Should I go with a resivor or closed system? I'm thinking towards a closed system since I dont have tons of room and dont have to worry about evaporation. I guess I will need to install some sort of full/expansion tube that will go up to the top of the case if I go with a closed system?

I have a res under my case. I'd show you what it looks like, but I don't have my pics yet. :(

I just finished looking at DDs Maze3 and 3-1 and they are made for socket 478. I think you would be just as good to go with a heater core and save some cash. I haven't ever seen anybody post much better results with any of the other alternatives. As far as tubing goes silicone is, as far as I'm concerned, the best choice as it does not kink as easily as vinyl.
