Help finding a new 23''-24'' gaming monitor

Hi everyone.

I have been trying to figure out which monitor to get when I build my new computer soon, but I keep going back and forward between the famous IPS vs 120Hz TN debate. I have not tried any IPS or 120Hz monitors, so I don't really have any experience, and would love to get some info from people that have.

So this monitor is mainly going to be used for (fast paced/FPS) gaming, mostly CSS (at a pretty competitive level). Because of this I had my mind set on the BenQ XL2410T, but then I started reading up on different monitors, and a lot of discusion between TN and IPS. The more I read, the more confused I get.

Anyways, I guess I would be happy with both options, as I use a Samsung 226CW today, and I guess both are better then it (also concerning the response time). I was thinking of spending about 300-450 quid which I guess would be around $500-750. In this price range I think my options are:

• BenQ XL2410T
• Dell U2410
• HP ZR24W
• Asus VG236HE
• Asus PA246Q
• Alienware OPTX AW2310 (though starting to get a bit on the expensive side here)

If you have any other suggestions just throw them out there. And just to add the most important spec I guess for the monitor performance: I will be using GTX 580 in SLI.

Hope you guys and girls can help me find my best option. If anything is unclear, don't be afraid to shout out (I am Norwegian, so if there is any problems understanding my English, just point out which sentences that need more clarification).

I tried a 120hz monitor and couldn't really notice if there was a difference, maybe if I compared them side by side but it wasn't worth it and I returned it. For $60 less I ended up with three 22" monitors.

If you only want one monitor I would go with an IPS, but if you want super fast response times and motion and can notice the difference then maybe 120hz is for you.

Dell U2410 hands down. I have it's 20 "little brother" (U2007FP 1600 x 1200 IPS). For the money, the Dell U2410 is the best in it's class.

Think I must have read like 100 different threads now. It seem that my best bet would be a 120Hz, and that there are 4 monitors that are a bit in front of the others. Those monitors are the BenQ XL2410T, LG W2363D, Asus VG236HE and the Alienware OPTX AW2310. My mind is pretty set on the BenQ XL2410T, but if anyone really thinks this a bad decision, please shout out.

2. Asus VG236HE
3. LG W2363D
4. Alienware OPTX AW2310

Guess I have mainly been going back and forward between the BenQ and Asus. Hoping to order today.

Any thoughts? My understanding:

BenQ XL2410T:
Seems that it was overhyped when it came out. Colors are awful out-of-the-box, but (a bit) better after calibration. It seems to be really fast, but beaten by the LG W2363D (also Samsung and Viewsonic). Seems to have the best stand out of the 120Hz monitors. Been a lot of people complaining about backlight bleeding on this monitor, but not sure if this is because of a bad batch.

Asus VG236HE:
From my understanding it's the best monitor at 3D (along with Alienware OPTX AW2310). It also seems to have the best colors out of all the 120Hz monitors, but at the cost of being slower. People keep on talking about its glossy screen, but from users this does not seem to be a problem. Stand in the middle of the three monitors.

LG W2363D:
From my research it is the fastest out of the three and is therefor the best bet for 2D fast paced gaming. It seems to have the worst stand out of the three monitors. The colors are not as good as the Asus VG236HE out-of-the-box, but from my reading is not too bad after some calibration (mabye not as good as the Asus though).

I keep on going back and forward between the three now, I just can't make up my mind. If the main use was 120Hz 2D FPS gaming (and just ocational 3D gaming/movies), which monitor would you pick?

On paper the BenQ looks the best (but does not seem to be the case in real life), from users the Asus seems to get a lot of good words, but the LG W2363D does not get much publicity and seems to be a really underrated monitor (don't see much negative about it). I am also wondering if the early problems with the BenQ might have been fixed with new firmware, and that it was a bad batch? I was pretty set on the BenQ, but after reading more and more, it seems that mabye this is not a wise choice.

Thought I would chime in..it seems no one talked about watt usage (power)

When you get to be my age that is something you look at per month. So take that into account as well.If anything at least for an environment stand point

I'm unofficially on the market for a good display as well, but I'm going to be sticking to a lower price point ($200 range). All of the monitors you're looking at are great with subtle differences, but for that price I can't justify it.

I ordered the LG W2363D in the end, not got it yet though. I think you can get it for around $300 new. Not that bad tbh.

Hey Pinky. I bought a dell sp2307w for $209 off of dell directly like 6 months ago and I could not be happier with it.

I'm really digging the 2048x1152 res.

Try that benq monitor with 3d nvidia glasses. It was made for 3d.
