When you try the hot swap first remove the orignial Bios chip and then reinstall it so that it is seated and all pins are making contact but not pushed all the way in (so that it will be easier to remove while the comp is on). I have also heard of using nylon fishing line woven though the pins of the chip you will be removing to give you additional leverage to pull the chip.

Good Luck.

BEST NEWS EVER!!!!!!!!

oh my god!!!! its worked!!!!!!!!!!! woo-hoo!!!!!! ....ive never felt so relieved...oh my god...im soooo glad. .....all is well......NEVER again am i going to flash a bios, even if my life depends on it.......well...maybe :) .....oh man! it feels so good! ...yeah, wicked. ....id just like to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH to everyone who has replyed to my post. all help and support has been much appreciated....couldnt've done it without ya.

One thing of note: i had a failed BIOS flash, and Supermicro replaced the BIOS for free. All I had to do was send the bad BIOS chip back to them, and they sent me a new one, no charge. Well, except for shipping my chip to them, but that was less than $3, if I recall right. Most motherboard manufacturers warranty their own equipment and will replace most of it if it's still under that warranty (see also: Maxtor). I don't think my mobo was under warranty, but since I returned the chip, they didn't charge me. Just in case another BIOS flash fails for you. Which should be pretty rare.

that was very lucky for you Wa11y. Bioses are VERY important as they are the door to you computer, so to speak

System

see! ..........i recommend people have a 2nd bios if they are a keen overclocker....it wont do any harm...plus having a 2nd bios safe will also help prevent heart failure like i nearly had...........maybe there is a god :)

THat's a neat looking accessory, but I now have a gigabyte board with the dual BIOS, and it has a program called @BioS where you download and flash the BIOS in Windows. Granted, the BIOS flash doesn't take effect until you reboot, but it's easier than having to bugger with the boot disk and all that.

The other thing is, with the dual BIOS on my board, the BIOS chips are small and square, instead of the one inch rectange that most BIOS chips are. So that BIOS saviour won't do me too much good. And I'm getting rid of the crap board that didn't flash right, anyway.
