I just got my new Opteron 285s and installed tem in my K8N-DL. When I boot, I get the screen that recognizes the Opteron correctly. The text says to Tab to show POST screen. Hitting TAB shows the POST which has counted up the 512MB (single DIMM) and hangs. The ROM rev reads 1008.

When I hit Del nothing happens. I have removed the second CPU and disconnected all USB, 1395 etc. No power is sent to the drives. I tried clearing CMOS.

I went out and bought a Power Supply tester, and the Ultra 2 550W supply tests perfectly.

When I get some more time I will take the MOBO out of the case, and maybe test the other CPU in the CPU1 socket.

Any ideas in the meantime ??

TIA

Just a quick thought I have... Ive seen that sometimes if you have the IDE cables connecting a drive with no power it might cause the system to hang. Its just an easy thing to do real quick before you go taking the mobo out of the case.

No drives connected, period. The oinly thing live is a graphics card. I will try a plain vanilla PCI card once I dig one up to eliminate PCI-E conflict ...
