Hello! Long-time reader, first-time poster.
So here's the deal. I'm attempting to build a budget gaming machine (around $500-$600) for my 13-year old brother. It'd be his first 'real' computer (not a hand-me-down) and it's my first time building a computer. We plan on assembling the thing together.
I'm pretty sure everything's compatible but I wanted to double-check with this awesome community. Also, since it's a budget machine, I was trying to allow for high upgradability.
a) Will the mobo support an upgrade from a SATA II HHD to a SATA III SSD?
b) Is the mobo suitable for 'more advanced' upgrading? Such as multi-gpu set-ups, overclocked everything, etc.
c) Is there enough cooling? 3 fans come with the case and 1 fan comes with the cpu; or do I have to get extra cooling equipment?
Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500 BX80623I52500 Processor - Quad Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 3.30 GHz (3.70 GHz Max Turbo), Socket H2 (LGA1155), 95W, Fan
I'm really set on getting a quad-core cpu because I feel it will 'stay relevant' longer.
GPU: HIS H667FS1G Radeon HD 6670 Video Card - 1GB, DDR3, PCI-Express 2.1 (x16), 1x Dual-Link DVI-D, 1x HDMI, 1x VGA, DirectX 11, Single-Slot
Cheapest card I could find with 1GB memory. Should support any type of monitor? Brother's screen is LCD.
MoBo: BIOSTAR TZ77B Intel 7 Series Motherboard - ATX, Socket H2 (LGA1155), Intel Z77 Express, 2600MHz DDR3 (O.C.), SATA III (6Gb/s), RAID, 8-CH Audio, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0, PCIe 3.0, CrossFireX Ready
Has SATA III and PCIe 3.0, so there's room for upgrades. HD 6670 will work with this mobo? A multi-gpu set-up would have to use AMD cards, due to CrossFireX?
RAM: Crucial CT2KIT25664BA1339 4GB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Desktop Memory Upgrade - Non-ECC, Unbuffered, CL9, 2x2048MB
Found cheapest 4Gb RAM. Wanted two modules, in case one crapped out.
HDD: Western Digital WD2500BPVT Scorpio Blue Mobile Hard Drive - 250GB, 2.5", SATA 3G, 5400 RPM, 8MB
Really wanted SSD but budget doesn't allow right now. Found cheapest HDD with good capacity.
Case: Apevia X-DREAMER3-BK X-DREAMER3 Mid Tower Case - ATX, mATX, Black
It's big and comes with 3 fans and a neat little heat sensor thing. Plus, I figured my brother would like the blue LED lights and such.
PSU: Need help with this. Don't really know how to figure out wattage requirements. Would prefer cheapest, most appropriate PSU.
Monitor, keyboard and mouse will be re-used.
Thank you very much for reading! This is really exciting.
