So. I have what I believe to be an AMD mobile xp processor out of a laptop. Is there anyway I can use the numbers and info on the outside of the chip to lookup its specs?

Thanks!

Yes, you can look at its stepping I believe to find out what kind of chip.

Also, in your title for the topic, when you type "help me ID and unknown processor" its "An" not "and". I hate when I see people do this. No offense, its just anoying.

Hey it's just bad grammar...we all do it, we all did it, it's sorta like someone talkin. omg u r ghey lolz12!!! no weys!~ Like that...it's the interweb.

Bbp, on the chip, there should be a sticker with all sorts of numbers (stepping, manufacture date, etc), could you reply with that?

2nd row on the black label of a Mobile Athlon XP begins with "AXM".

After "AXM" there's one letter, then the P-rating like the "2500" in the attached pic meaning 2500+.

Number before the last letter is the amount of L2 cache. Like "4" in "FQQ4C" meaning 512kB, thus this cpu is a mobile Barton. Should you find a "3" here, you have a mobile Thoroughbred.

Thanks for the help. The "and" instead of "an" was just an oversight. I too am very grammar conscious.

The chip was in a laptop with a busted LCD screen. I ended up using the VGA out to a CRT monitor and used cpu-z to gather all the information I was looking for. Though, I had always wondered if a CPU could be identified by its markings so thanks for the information guys.
