Hi Guys,

Currently my internet is my system bottleneck :'(

I have a router and connect to my PC using a wireless dongle < POOR connection.

I NEED A SOLUTION. Here are the options <

1. Ethernet from PC to Router < I cant do this my mum would trip and kill herself... Almost won't taking the risk but me old man wont be happy.

2. Homeplugs! Do these actually WORK?! :S If so do they work well? (Better than wireless) I was thinking these > http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/on-ne...9721-0a3328ca1f02&istItemId=qqpxmxaa&istBid=t

Any ideas please help!

Why not just grab a PCI or USB wireless card for your computer with a stronger antenna?

Not sure if you can find it in the UK, but I have this one and it works very well.

Its a possibility, but was trying to find a solution to Wireless and its SO unreliable and when I lag while streaming the Football and miss a goal, I get mad! :p

Just read up a bit on those Homeplugs. They are pretty neat and would keep you wired if that's your goal, but the speeds are still 200mbps max (from what I read). Keeping you wired, that is probably your only option, though.

Ye, looks like my best option. Quick question!

My DL speed at home is 500kbps, and upload is like 100kbps.

So if these are 200mbps that will be plenty's? or is this a different speed?

If that is the speed which your ISP quoted you, then two things..
1) You are probably fine with the devices you have.
2) That could be the source of your slow down issues. 0.5Mbps is pretty slow these days.

The 200Mbps figure is a measure of the connectivity between devices in your home (your PC) and the Homeplug. You will also want to check for a similar figure for your router, but most likely neither will matter since you're speeds will, in the end, be capped by your ISP.

I need to find out, had it since I was a kid my parents got it with Sky and as I live in the middle of no ware I am very limited.

Cheers for the help!

wow, 100kbps upload is amazingly slow, any streaming video over internet will be glitchy, can you upgrade your speeds?

I have just ran a speed test and I am getting 5mbps download and 0.5mbps upload. My wireless signal is poor though. I can't get much better buddy as I live in the middle of no ware fiber is not available

5mbps down and 0.5 up isn't that bad. When you show the status of your wireless connection, what's that show? It could be worth it to just try a better antenna. If it's just that you aren't picking up the signal clearly enough, improving that could solve your problem for a lot cheaper than those homeplugs.
