I had a 120mm fan die on me a week or two ago and got my replacement fan today. I hooked up the wires to a molex so that the black fan wire goes ground and red wire goes to the red on my power supply (the replacement fan is the exact same one as my old one and I wired it the same way.) My problem is that this new one only spits out about 1/3 of what my old one did before it died and it is definitly not giving me 80cfm. Actually I ordered two replacement fans and they are both spitting out 1/3 of the original one. Any ideas why this one isn't working? I tried wiggling the wires and I tried both replacement fans but nothing changed. I havn't added any other fans to my computer or anything that drains power so I dont think its the power supply not having enough to feed all my stuff. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is your fan a 12V? If so, connect it to the yellow wire from the psu. The red wire is only 5V so your fan would only spin about 1/3 like you said.

I think its possible that its a 12v fan. Or maybe your PSU is just bad from the start! If you have a spare laying around try it out, or on a friends rig.

thanks for the help. Turns out it was a 12v fan. I got red and yellow mixed up. You would think red is more then yellow. Ohh well, thanks again for the help.
